Two years ago, I started showing symptoms of actinic keratosis—a rare autoimmune manifestation, almost like an allergic reaction, to sun damage. It first appeared as lesions and round pockmarks on my hands, then slowly crept up my arms. As a Florida girl, sleeveless shirts have always been a way of life, and I had always rather fancied my hands as lovely.
