Skin Health Connection to Food sensitivity, Toxicity, and Inflammation

Compromised gut barrier creates intestinal permeability and ultimately contributes to the development of food sensitivities or allergies, toxicity and inflammation. Most of us with skin issues can relate to this, we all know what foods break us out or inflame our skin. However, the mistake we often make is blaming the foods we eat for our problems and avoid our triggers instead of focusing on healing the gut. A well-functioning digestion and healthy gut should be able to handle all foods including the most feared ones like dairy and gluten without creating any problems, even the opposite, our body will absorb the nutrients from these foods and use the energy from them for optimal metabolic functions creating an environment of a nourishment and wellbeing. Dairy is reportedly one of the most problematic food groups for people with acne but it is also one of the food groups that is absolutely loaded with vitamins and minerals especially (Vitamin A) that are crucial for skin health.

Despite what you have come to believe about healthy and unhealthy diets the main reason many of us can’t digest certain foods is because our gut is constantly irritated by an excessive amount of plant fibers (think all these healthy salads we are constantly trying to consume). Also, nuts, seeds, undercooked cruciferous vegetables, beans and grains can all be irritating to the gut. Another big irritant are the Polyunsaturated fats we consume daily (canola, grapeseed, sunflower, soybean, flax oils etc) they directly lower our ability to make digestive enzymes. Reducing all of the above will help our gut heal it’s lining and will improve digestion eventually reversing any food sensitivities and, in some cases, even eliminating food allergies.

Not being able to digest food properly combined with gut permeability will allow toxins from the indigested food, as well as from pesticides, herbicides, food additives, and colorants to enter our bloodstream which is another lead cause for acne and rosacea symptoms.

And all of the above creates inflammation as the body is trying to protect us and heal itself.
